Midvalley Lodging Tax Questions
Eagle County and the town of Basalt are asking voters to increase taxes on visitors by 2%. This comes after the town recently imposed a fee on short-term rentals.
On November 4, Midvalley voters will decide on a tax question, testing their willingness to impose higher taxes on visitors for public services.
- Elected officials in both the town of Basalt and Eagle County voted to put a 2% lodging tax on the ballot.
- If the county's ballot measure 1A passes, the total lodging tax would rise to 4% in unincorporated Eagle County.
- If the town's ballot measure 3A passes, Basalt's lodging tax would increase to 6%.
Revenue from 1A could bring in up to $14.5 million in its first year for Eagle County, with 90% of the funding allocated to:
- Child care for the local workforce
- Public safety enhancements
- Fire protection
- Emergency medical services
The remaining 10% would go to advertising and marketing for local tourism.
