Port Reopens After Boat Runs Aground
A port has reopened after a boat that had run aground was moved.
The Port of Wisbech Harbour Authority announced the closure of Port Sutton Bridge and Port of Wisbech on Tuesday after the Marry S ran aground last Monday.
“The River Nene is closed to all commercial traffic”
as the banked vessel was making navigation unsafe. Following its removal, the river is reopened.
Incident Explanation
Gavin Patrick, director, Port Sutton Bridge, said:
“The ship left here and ran aground on Monday night around 9pm caused by a neap tide. “It is quite unusual for it to happen, and we think it is because of the tide time. “We moved it yesterday afternoon, and the river is back open again.”
The closure was from buoys nine and seven, and no inbound or outbound vessels were permitted to attempt to pass the obstruction.
The Marry S was able to be moved on the next available spring tide.
