Martha Layne Collins, Kentucky's first and only woman governor, passed away on Saturday at the age of 88. As a politician, she was known for being guarded and rarely forthcoming, which is an unusual trait for a public figure.
She was more ice than fire during her long tenure in the public eye.
Despite this, Collins was able to win elections and lead a successful administration from 1983 to 1987. One of her notable achievements was bringing Toyota to Kentucky.
