Nassau Police Officer Ian Fogarty Honored
Nassau County police officer Ian Fogarty was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.
Fogarty, who was visiting the park with his family, saw two 16-year-olds struggling in the water about 100 yards offshore. Using a boogie board, he swam out to them and helped them return to shore safely.
“It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly,”
recalled Fogarty, 38. The Nassau County Legislature honored Fogarty for his “selfless valor” and named him its “Top Cop” for September.
