According to Fred Hutch public health researcher Chris Li,
“Screening is an effective tool for reducing the burden of cancer,”but it is a complex process with multiple steps.
A new study from PROSPR II, funded by the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, found that many Americans are skipping some of these steps, resulting in
“important gaps in care across the screening continuum”, as noted by Fred Hutch Cancer Center epidemiologist Christopher “Chris” Li, MD, PhD.
Findings published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute show that cancer screening is beneficial only when done correctly, but too many people are falling through gaps in the system.
Author's summary: Cancer screening has gaps in care.
