Drewrys Land and Adjacent Sites Receive No Bids
The South Bend Redevelopment Commission received no bids for the three pieces of land intended for redevelopment, including the former Drewrys Brewery site.
The city had advertised for bids in September for the sites, including the former Drewrys at 1408 Elwood Ave., the former Portage Elwood Shopping Center at 1302 Elwood Ave., and the former Portage Sunoco Garage at 1335 Portage Ave.
"We have not received any bids,"said Joseph Molnar, Growth and Opportunity Assistant Director, although he noted that there are entities interested in being partners.
The city has begun demolition of the neighboring Portage Elwood Shopping Center and plans to issue a request for proposal in spring 2026.
South Bend expected no bids when it advertised in September, as it was satisfying a state law requirement, and is not required to accept bids.
