Walking Home: Finding Joy, Community, and Connection

MUN Medical student Megan Clemens advocates for active transportation. On a rainy evening in St. John's, she decides to walk home from the Health Sciences Centre after a long day.

Active transportation (AT), such as walking, rolling, or strolling, has numerous benefits. As a grad student, Clemens learned about AT and developed an elevator pitch:

AT benefits physical, mental, social, economic, and environmental health.

Clemens plans to recommend AT to future patients and discuss it at conferences, but notes that the benefits don't fully capture her personal love for walking.

Author's summary: Active transportation benefits overall health.
