Seventeen Filipinos, believed to be victims of human trafficking, have been deported from Malaysia, according to the Bureau of Immigration.
The victims, who illegally stayed in Malaysia between 2022 and 2024, arrived in Zamboanga onboard the motor vessel Antonia. Among them was a family of four, including parents and their two sons, who were reportedly recruited in 2023.
The head of the family was promised a job at a palm oil company with a monthly salary of 2,000 ringgit.
After two years of working in the company, the family sought help from authorities due to alleged abuses by their employer. The Bureau of Immigration reported their arrival and assistance.
