Police in Birmingham arrested more than 20 individuals following a series of violent incidents on Bonfire Night, November 5. The disturbances involved youths recklessly setting off fireworks aimed at police officers and the public.
The trouble occurred mainly around Dale End and Staniforth Street, near the Aston Expressway and the busy Bagot Street area, known for its student residences. Groups of youths were reported carrying weapons, attacking officers, and causing disorder throughout the night and into early Thursday morning.
A Section 60 order was implemented on the night, granting police enhanced stop and search powers. This led to numerous arrests and the confiscation of weapons and fireworks.
Police reported “multiple proactive arrests being made, along with the seizures of weapons and fireworks.”
