Time to put all that carbon dioxide underground | Börsen-Zeitung

Carbon Capture and Storage in Germany

In some industrial sectors, capturing and storing CO₂ underground is considered essential to meet climate change targets.

The German legal framework required for CCS is set to be passed by the end of the year, enabling industry to transport, use, and store CO₂ underground.

A draft bill on the necessary amendment to the Carbon Dioxide Storage Act was approved by the Federal Cabinet in August, and discussed in Parliament in its first reading shortly after.

Legislators are expected to give the final green light before the end of the year, permitting the use of CCS and CCU in Germany.

CCS and CCU are now considered an indispensable component of industrial decarbonisation.

Author's summary: Germany to pass CCS law by year-end.
