Iran has unveiled a Christian-themed metro station in Tehran, amidst controversy over religious persecution.
The Maryam-e Moqaddas station, or Holy Mary station, features a plaque with a message that reads:
“the message of Jesus Christ was the salvation of humans from darkness, ignorance, corruption, depravity and discrimination.”
The station also includes a relief of Christ walking on water and a depiction of Mary praying among flowers.
State media has described the station's name and motif as a gesture of cultural coexistence, noting that Mary is a venerated figure in Islam.
However, this unveiling is ironic, given that Iranians can be imprisoned for owning bibles.
