PCC says cost of police helicopters 'cannot be justified'

Cost of Police Helicopters Cannot be Justified

Wiltshire's Police and Crime Commissioner states that the cost of maintaining a helicopter service cannot be justified, following the release of new usage statistics.

Figures show that the National Police Air Service attended 1,650 incidents in the South West, including 139 in Wiltshire, last year. In contrast, local police forces in the region flew 4,163 drone missions, with 765 in Wiltshire.

The stats prove that the millions of pounds paid by South West police forces to NAPS can no longer be justified.

PCC Philip Wilkinson has been campaigning for the five south west police forces to exit their open-ended contract with the National Police Air Service.
