Andrew Frankel reflects on the experience of driving the Hesketh 308, the feeling of sitting in the same seat as James Hunt, and why he considers that car to be one of the finest of its contemporaries.
“The establishment didn’t take us seriously at all, and I wouldn’t have stayed in the sport nearly so long if it had. They just saw me as a fat aristocrat throwing his money around. Showing they could be beaten suddenly became rather important.”
The words belong to Lord Hesketh, spoken when Andrew Frankel interviewed him a few years ago prior to the sale of the Hesketh 308 in which James Hunt won the International Trophy race at Silverstone in 1974.
Author's summary: Hesketh 308 is a great car of its era.
