Rail Minister Opens New Station in Essex
Rail minister Lord Hendy is visiting Britain's newest station, after it opened to passengers yesterday morning.
The station, Beaulieu Park in north Chelmsford, was built with £141 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund, as part of the Chelmsford Garden Community project.
- £12 million from the South-East Local Enterprise Partnership
- £22 million from the developers of Beaulieu
The three-platform station features:
- 705 parking spaces in two car parks
- a public transport interchange
- over 500 cycle spaces
The first train to call was the 07.20 to London Liverpool Street, with up to four trains an hour during peak times, operated by Greater Anglia, which was nationalised earlier this month.
