The Seneca Chief's Voyage
The Seneca Chief is a reminder of what was gained and lost with the development of the Erie Canal.
On its voyage, a barrel was filled with waters collected from each stop along the Erie Canal. At each port, representatives were presented with a white pine tree, the Haudenosaunee's "great tree of peace," to plant.

- The crowd gathered at Lauraville Landing Park in the Village of Clyde to greet the Seneca Chief.
- City of Lockport Mayor John Lombardi poured water from the locks into a barrel for the Gathering of the Waters ceremony.
The Seneca Chief began its 33-day bicentennial voyage along the Erie Canal to New York Harbor on Sept. 24.
