Balfour Beatty seals start for £162m Edinburgh concert hall job

Balfour Beatty to Start £162m Edinburgh Concert Hall Project

The Scottish Government has provided a £20m rescue package to move the long-delayed Edinburgh concert hall project forward.

Sir Robert McAlpine was initially lined up for the job, but exited last spring due to rising costs, which ballooned from the original £45m estimate by architects Chipperfield and Reiach & Hall.

Balfour Beatty has been brought in to oversee the project, which will provide a permanent home for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and a major base for the Edinburgh International Festival.

The project, commissioned by IMPACT Scotland, is expected to finally move forward after more than six years of delays.

The deal was sealed after the Scottish Government stepped in with a £20m rescue package for the project.
