Large Police Presence Closes Clark Middle School
The Anchorage Police Department responded to a disturbance with a weapon in the 3400-block of Commercial Drive on Thursday morning.
According to APD, the response was due to reports of a man firing a gun in the Mountain View neighborhood. Police received multiple reports of gunfire, with callers hearing several rounds and at least one witness seeing an adult man discharge a firearm before fleeing on foot.
Once on the scene, officers established containment and began searching for the suspect. During the search, an officer was reportedly fired upon, prompting additional patrol units to respond and the activation of APD's SWAT team.
The search involved SWAT, patrol officers, and K9 teams, according to police.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:29 a.m.
