R&B Superstar D’Angelo Dies at 51
D’Angelo, the Grammy-winning R&B singer, has died after a long bout with cancer, his family said in a statement.
He was credited with launching the neo-soul movement in the 1990s with his raspy yet smooth voice.
“a shining star of our family and has dimmed his light for us in this life,”
His family added that they are “eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.
The singer, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, was recognized for his mainstream attention with the shirtless “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” music video.
