Salmon spotting season has begun on Vancouver Island, with the peak expected later this month. Pacific salmon are returning to rivers and streams after traveling thousands of kilometers.
Salmon have already been spotted in Goldstream Provincial Park and in the Puntledge and Quinsam rivers, according to the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
"(This) is turning out to be a great year to spot salmon,"
said Michael Meneer, foundation president and CEO. He attributed this to favorable ocean conditions and conservation efforts led by First Nations, streamkeepers, and grassroots groups across B.C.
The number of returning salmon shows their resilience, and the foundation hopes people will visit local streams to witness this migration.
