Potential Super Typhoon to Enter PAR This Weekend, Named Uwan

The tropical depression currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) continues moving west-northwest while maintaining strength, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The center of this tropical depression is approximately 1,770 km east of northeastern Mindanao. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near its center, with gusts up to 70 km/h, moving at a speed of 15 km/h west-northwest.

PAGASA forecasts that this weather disturbance may enter PAR by late Friday or early Saturday and will be named Uwan, marking the 21st cyclone in the country this year.

Forecast and Impact

The system is expected to intensify rapidly, potentially reaching super typhoon strength before making landfall in Northern or Central Luzon early next week.

By Friday evening or Saturday morning, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be issued for eastern Luzon and Samar provinces in preparation for strong winds and heavy rains.
