The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Uwan has strengthened into a super typhoon as of Sunday morning. The agency issued Signal No. 5 warnings for the Polillo Islands, parts of Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes due to the severe weather threat.
Pagasa has raised the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5, indicating extreme life-threatening conditions from typhoon-force winds exceeding 185 kph expected within the next twelve hours.
Uwan is packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph), with gusts of up to 230 kph, the state weather bureau said.
According to Pagasa, the period from Sunday to Monday morning is the most crucial for areas under threat from Super Typhoon Uwan.
