Stellantis Motorsport’s Senior Vice-President Jean-Marc Finot expressed strong confidence about Team Peugeot TotalEnergies’ prospects of achieving the 9X8’s first FIA World Endurance Championship victory, possibly as early as this weekend’s Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain season finale (6–8 November).
Just three weeks after a remarkable third and fourth place under the torrential rain of Lone Star Le Mans in Texas, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies secured its best result yet in FIA WEC’s Hypercar class. The #93 9X8, driven by Mikkel Jensen, Paul di Resta, and Jean-Éric Vergne, finished second in the 6 Hours of Fuji.
French teams excelled in Japan, with only the #35 Alpine A424 finishing ahead of the Peugeot 9X8 in the foothills of Mount Fuji.
“We were happy to be on the podium and to hear La Marseillaise,” Jean-Marc Finot told fiawec.com. “Still, if we had to finish second, at least it was to another French manufacturer.”
Although missing out on a victory that seemed close, Finot highlighted the progress made since the 9X8’s striking wingless debut at the 6 Hours of Monza in 2022.
“We started out in endurance racing from a blank slate. It takes time to get everything up and running, but now, we’ve reached a decent cruising speed. We’ve caught up with teams that have been around for many years.”
Jean-Marc Finot praises Peugeot’s rise in endurance racing, confident that consistent progress with the 9X8 brings the team closer to its long-awaited first FIA WEC victory.
